A short note to bring you up to speed on the LDYC Round the Island Weekend Regatta.
With the exception of race entrants who paid their fees before 15th January, the gate entry is R100 per person over 18 years, whether one is a member or not. However, members who do any duty shifts can reclaim their entry fee from the office.
The website’s map to LDYC has been updated with a speedy route via Meyerton.
If friends and family coming along will not actually be sailing, they can be part of the fun and action as well by assisting on the bridge boat. We need more hands on deck – to volunteer call Annetjie at LDYC 016 371 1393 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Not only will they enjoy the experience but will get their gate entry refunded!

Round the Island Goes Digital
The recording of finishing positions and scoring for this year’s Round the Island Race will be supplemented by an electronic recording which will necessitate the use of electronic tags. They are mandatory for receiving a race result. The tags will be issued to all skippers and are to be affixed to a forward point on the boat. The tags will be issued on payment of a R50 deposit which will be refunded on the return of the tag. For more information on collection and return options see Facebook or the website.
Another new facet of racing we are trialling this year is the Windsail system which is being developed by member Anthony Engelbrecht’s company Attune. Each race entrant will receive an email with a unique reference number for their entry. This allows a download of the Mobile Application to a smart phone. Live GPS tracking data will be uploaded into their system from your cell phone as you sail, so family, friends, and other spectators can view your course live real-time on the Internet. Your sail track will be stored with a number of other interesting statistics such as distance sailed, maximum speed, and plenty more on their website for post-race perusal. Race progress will also be displayed in the club house during the racing. Mobile applications are in final testing with Apple, Blackberry and Windows, and will be available on the Windows Mobile store, Google Play, Blackberry world, as well as iTunes. A simple user’s guide to the application will be posted shortly on www.windsail.co.za. Please take note that the application is a beta release, so if there are any issues you identify when launching it, please contact email@example.com. Android versions from 3 and up are supported, Windows 8, iOS 5 and up, and Blackberry 7 and 10.
A giant water slide will be onsite for the youngsters (and some not to young!).
Live entertainment on Friday evening will be DJ Eternal Entertainment. Saturday evening features a three part billing: Demolisiemasjin, followed by Ready When You Are and ending with Stereo Muse.
Brian Eminess will have Capital Sounds providing live commentary, music and information updates throughout the weekend.
He has also organised the Eqstra Flying Lions comprising 4 Havards, to execute a dramatic aerobatic display sometime between 12h00 and 14h00 on Sunday.
