Report by Dominic van der Walt

BT GAMES SAS YOUTH NATIONALS 2010

Every year youth sailors from around the country get together for their annual South African Sailing (SAS) Youth National Championship. This event is rotated between the regions and attracts on average between 200 and 300 sailors at every level of ability, from novices and first-time national event competitors to our top youth that campaign for world championship and high performance squad selections. Competitors as young as 7 years old up to the maximum age of 18 years old enjoy a full week of competitive racing at international standards as well as many fun activities off the water.

Dylan Emmett a junior from Lake Deneys Yacht Club has been selected to represent South Africa
in the African Championships for Optimist dinghies. Sailing will take place off shore from the Dar Es Salaam Yacht Club in Tanzania in August. He recently took place in the Selections Regatta in Richards Bay harbour where
a series of 24 races over 6 days were done with the top 31 Optimist sailors from around South Africa.
Well done Dylan, Management Committee and members wish to congratulate you on your achievement and are proud to have you a member of our club.

Report Back

Dylan was 9th overall, 5th African and 1st South African.
His team made up of Dylan, Claire Walker(KZN Midmar) and Sam Hancock (KZN
Midmar) were the overall winners of the team sailing competition, beating
the much favoured Danish team, in what I believe was a nailbiting race, in
the finals.
You can read about this in the report on the last day.
