LDYC Autumn cruise to Vaal Cruising Assoc. - 5/6 April 2008 8 LDYC yachts & crews set sail for Vaal Cruising Assoc. ( VCA ) at 10 am. The wind was light on the way to the island & a slight drizzle started as we rafted up for lunch at the north end of the island. Julien Girard entertained us with many stories of the Vaal dam & sailing experiences. The drizzle developed into a storm & the raft up braai lunch had to be interrupted as Ssandscat's anchor began to drag battling to hold 5 yachts in place. Faan & Stretch ran aground in Rose bay & after being rescued by Dickie Manten they abandoned the idea of joining the cruise & returned to LDYC - better luck next time guys! Thanks to VCA we had great moorings, courtesy welcoming drinks & fires on their new braais - thanks VCA! We survived yet another downpour of rain before we braaied for supper. VCA was having a greek evening & the clubhouse was decorated appropriately - looked great! Johnny & Hilda, John & Christine, Kathy & friend drove to VCA to join us with the braai - it was great to have such a large LDYC presence at VCA. We decided to get back to our yachts before the third storm hit, at least we were all dry. Everyone left VCA fairly early to be back at LDYC before the afternoon storm & we were. Most of the cruisers enjoyed brunch on the verandah at LDYC before heading home. As thiswas the last cruise of the 2007/8 sailing year, I would like to thank those people who attended the cruises this year - I hope you enjoyed them.
